About Chico Daily Deals

We built the thing we wanted to use.

Chico has great happy hours, daily specials, local events, and small businesses worth knowing about. Finding all of it usually means bouncing between websites, Instagram posts, Facebook pages, flyers, menus, and word of mouth.

We thought there should be one simple place to look.

For people

Find the deal. Go support the business.

No coupon maze. No account required. No points system standing between you and a good local deal.

For businesses

You do not have to pay to belong here.

If a Chico business has a useful deal, we want people to be able to find it. Paid promotion may add visibility, not erase everyone else.

For Chico

Local first.

This directory is built around Chico and the surrounding community, especially the independent and locally rooted places that make it feel like home.

The basic promise

The directory should stay useful even if you never log in.

We may eventually add accounts, saved favorites, exclusive offers, reviews, limited-use coupons, rewards, or other extras. Those should make Chico Daily Deals more useful, not turn the basic directory into something you have to unlock.

We also use reasonable analytics and technical logs to understand whether the site works, improve it, and protect it from abuse. We are not interested in collecting more personal data than we need just to tell you where the good deals are.

Advertising, eventually

Paying us should buy extra exposure, not control the directory.

Chico Daily Deals may offer clearly identified featured placements, sponsorships, social promotion, or other advertising for local businesses. That support can help keep this project running.

But a great deal should not disappear just because the business did not pay us. The core directory is meant to remain useful first.

Yes, we use AI

We are trying to use it in a way that helps the community.

AI helps us discover businesses, read menus and flyers, turn screenshots and links into structured deal information, organize submissions, and flag information that may need a human review.

In this project, AI is not replacing a Chico employee. The graphic designer whose work it replaced is one of the people building Chico Daily Deals. The developer whose work it replaced is too.

We outsourced some of our own work to AI so a tiny team could build and maintain something that can send more customers to local companies. If it works, that creates more opportunity around town rather than less.

The experiment

Can a small team + AI + the Chico community keep a genuinely useful local directory accurate at scale?

That is a big part of what we are testing here.

Built with the community

Chico knows more about Chico than we ever could.

We will never catch every happy hour, Tuesday special, student discount, menu change, new business, closed business, or one-off event ourselves. Collectively, the community already knows most of it.

See something missing? Submit a deal, event, or business. Submit something → See something wrong? Tell us so we can fix it. Report an issue → Own the business? Claim your listing and help keep it accurate. Claim your business →

Accounts may come later. You still will not need one just to browse.

Optional accounts could let regular contributors build trust over time so reliable submissions and corrections can move through review faster. They could also unlock extras from participating businesses, like Chico Daily Deals exclusives, saved favorites, reviews, limited-use coupons, or rewards.

The useful public directory comes first. Account features should sit on top of it.

So what makes this different?

We are trying to keep the answer simple.

Not a coupon maze.

You should not need to buy a voucher from us before visiting a business.

Not an ad leaderboard.

Businesses may pay for extra exposure, but paying us should not make everyone else disappear.

Not account-first.

The core experience should work when you are logged out.

Local first.

The goal is to help Chico discover Chico, not give giant companies another place to crowd out local businesses.
